The Dallas Cowboys came into the 2019 season with a big decision to make in regards of starting quarterback Dak Prescott and how much money he would be receiving in a new contract.
Nothing could be worked out during the season as both sides couldn’t agree to a number. Reports stated Dak was offered $33 million per year, but he not only turned it down, but asked for way more.
Speaking about that topic this past Friday on WEEI’s “Dale & Keefe,” former Cowboys WR and current NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin shed some light on conversations that he has had with “very significant people.”
Irvin stated the people he spoke with thinks the team will use the franchise tag on Dak Prescott, trade him after that and then sign Tom Brady in free agency.
“I AM TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW, AT THE SUPER BOWL IN MIAMI, SOME VERY SIGNIFICANT PEOPLE THAT I HAD CONVERSATIONS (WITH WERE) LEANING IN THAT SAME DIRECTION,” IRVIN SAID. “IT WAS SHOCKING. I HAD A VODKA CRANBERRY IN MY HAND AND WHEN THEY SAID IT TO ME I PUT THE DRINK DOWN AND SAID, ‘LET’S TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THIS.’ I PROMISE YOU, I HAD A CONVERSATION WITH PEOPLE, I CAN’T TELL YOU WHO, ABOUT THAT SAME SCENARIO GOING DOWN.”
During the 2019 season, Dak posted career numbers in 2019, recording 4,902 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and just 11 interceptions. He also ran for 277 yards and three more scores.
