On Wednesday, NFL Films released their footage from that nail-biting finish to the game between the 49ers and Cowboys. One of Dallas’ assistants can be heard pointing out that the team could get an easy 15 yards by going up the middle, which we all saw Dak Prescott do.
However, on that fateful attempt to spike the ball, Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was left in complete shock. He was recorded asking “What happened? The referee got in the way?”
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was seen removing his headset in disgust while Zeke could be seen looking up at the video board.
After the game, 49ers tight end George Kittle could be heard telling Cowboys defensive end Chauncey Golston, “I didn’t know what was happening.”
To make matters worse, the Dallas Cowboys were the only home team to fall on Wild Card Weekend this year. They went 12-5 in the regular season, securing the NFC East title weeks in advance, and they have nothing to show for it when the playoffs came around.
In response to the last play, plenty of Cowboys fans wanted to blame the officiating crew for the loss — some of those in attendance at AT&T Stadium threw trash at the officials as they left the field.

That last play will be dissected for months and possibly years to come, but look to those 14 penalties that changed the game for the Cowboys.
