Punting from his own end zone, Dolphins punter Thomas Morstead just kicked the ball right off the butt of his personal protector.
The ball would travel to the back of the end zone and cost them two points against the Buffalo Bills, making things that much more interesting down the stretch.
The safety cut the Dolphins’ lead to just two points. It wasn’t the worst scenario for them, as the commentators were even suggesting that Miami may have wanted to take a safety in that situation and avoid the possible disaster of the Bills blocking the punt and recovering it in the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown.
In the end, the safety turned out to be the best case scenario, as the Bills were unable to get into field goal range in time, and the Dolphins escaped with the 21-19 victory.
The win was a big one for Miami, who moved into sole possession of first place in the AFC East with a perfect 3-0 record.
