Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is still awaiting clearance to practice ahead of his team’s Wild Card playoff fixture against the Buffalo Bills.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel revealed as much on Monday, adding the QB hasn’t suffered any setbacks since entering concussion protocol on December 26. There is no official timeline on a return for Tua but McDaniel said he was hoping to know more, as it pertains to the player’s status, by this Wednesday.
The QB is said to be in good spirits, despite missing Miami’s final two preseason games, and has posted photos of himself “sweating,” presumably from exercise. However, the situation will continue to be monitored day by day.
“When he’s cleared to practice, he will practice,” McDaniel was quoted as saying. “Until then, I’m not doing anything.”
Based on what McDaniel has said, Tua could be in phase 2 or 3 of the return-to-participation concussion protocol, which can be seen below:

Tua’s issues have been a subject of much discourse given that he’s gone into concussion protocol two times this season. There was even talk of the player probably retiring, but lots of cold water has been poured since.
