On Thursday, FOX’s Jay Glazer reported that the Miami Dolphins were willing to trade three first-rounders and two second-rounders for Deshaun Watson on the condition that Watson settle the 22 unresolved sexual assault claims against him.
Glazer went on to report the Texans got cold feet about the deal because they believe they could get more once Watson settled his off-the-field issues.
The Dolphins weren’t the only team to offer that type of package as NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero reported that there were multiple teams that offered packages including three first-round draft picks and two third-round picks for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Panthers owner David Tepper decided not to move forward before the deadline, and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross followed suit hours before Tuesday’s deadline in part because Watson hadn’t settled the civil cases.
Watson has a no-trade clause and we only knew of him waiving it for the Dolphins.
Other teams, as well as the Texans, are hoping for more clarity with Watson during the offseason regarding his sexual assault cases. Handling that could bring a massive package back for the rebuilding Texans.
