The Miami Dolphins have signed a veteran cornerback to help their secondary following Jalen Ramsey’s injury that will sideline him for most of 2023.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Dolphins have signed cornerback Eli Apple to a one-year contract. The soon-to-be 28-year-old spent each of the last two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Ramsey suffered a meniscus injury during Thursday’s training camp session. Initially, it wasn’t believed to be serious, but he underwent surgery and is expected to be out until December, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Miami had acquired Ramsey in an offseason blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for tight end Hunter Long and a third-round pick. With that pick, the Rams selected Tennessee defensive end Byron Young.
Apple was a star cornerback at Ohio State and helped the Buckeyes to a national championship in the 2014 season. The 2015 Second-team All-Big Ten selection was drafted in the first round (10th overall) by the New York Giants in 2016.
