The Miami Dolphins are signing a veteran three-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher to bolster their defense and Super Bowl push.
Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, the Dolphins are bringing back veteran edge rusher Melvin Ingram, following his workout with the team on Tuesday. Ingram spent the 2022 season with the Dolphins but went unsigned throughout 2023 until now.
The 34-year-old Ingram spent his first nine seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers, which spanned from 2012 to 2020. He earned Pro Bowl nods in three straight years from 2017 to 2019, and he recorded at least seven sacks in five consecutive seasons from 2015 to 2019.
Ingram split the 2021 season with the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers, tallying just two sacks that year. In 17 games for the Dolphins last season, Ingram had six sacks and two fumble recoveries. Miami finished 9-8 and ended a six-year playoff drought, only to fall to the rival Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card Round.
Ingram returns as another valuable pass-rushing weapon for Mike McDaniel and a Miami defense that has struggled with consistency. After a strong five-game stretch, the defense crumpled in Monday night’s stunning loss to the Tennessee Titans, allowing 15 points inside the final three minutes en route to a 28-27 defeat.
The Dolphins will try to bounce back this Sunday when they host the AFC East rival New York Jets at 1:00 p.m. EST.
