One top AFC club reportedly inquired on Minnesota Vikings’ star running back Dalvin Cook.
According to a report from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Miami Dolphins made “an inquiry” on the four-time Pro Bowler. Ultimately, however, they were happy retaining Raheem Moster, Jeff Wilson Jr., Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed:
It’s rare for a team to bring back its entire running back group, but the Dolphins — after making an inquiry on Dalvin Cook — decided to re-sign all four at less than $8 million in combined salary.”
After being limited to 15 total games over his rookie and sophomore seasons (2017 and 2018), Cook has emerged as one of the NFL’s premier offensive playmakers. Cook has exceeded 1,000 rushing yards in each of the last four years.
The Dolphins haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since Jay Ajayi (2016, 1,272 yards), so it’s not surprising they had interest in Cook. But at the end of the day, Miami saves precious cap space by keeping four potential RB1s for a combined $8 million, as Jackson noted.
In 2020, Minnesota handed Cook a five-year contract extension worth $63 million. His production was instrumental in helping the Vikings win 13 games as well as their first AFC North division crown since 2022.
But Cook’s dominant production hasn’t been enough to slow down the trade talk. At this time, there’s no strong indicator that the Vikings are truly shopping the 27-year-old star.

Aside from re-signing the aforementioned four running backs, it has mostly been a quiet period of free agency for Miami GM Chris Grier. His biggest move thus far was acquiring All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a third-round pick and tight end Hunter Long.
