With all the hoopla surrounding Antonio Brown, people tend to forget that Melvin Gordon has still not reported to the Los Angeles Chargers.
He won’t be playing today for the team as they open the 2019 season, and according to a recent report, he won’t be there for several weeks.
Via NFL.com:
“Sources say that Gordon, who missed training camp because of his desire for a new contract, is expected to report this season. But the current plan is to report in the window that spans from Week 6 through Week 8.
Gordon, who will play on the $5.6 million fifth-year option, must report by Week 10 to have this season count and qualify for free agency next year. He will show up before then, with Gordon not planning to pull a Le’Veon Bell — who sat out all of the 2018 season with the Steelers after refusing to sign a second-straight franchise tag.”
Gordon’s representatives are continuing to seek a trade but teams are unwilling to offer the first and a fifth-round pick the Chargers are asking for Gordon.
During the 2018 season, Gordon rushed for 885 yards on 175 carries to go along with 50 receptions for 490 yards receiving and 14 total touchdowns.
