The Baltimore Ravens’ running back room just got a little more crowded.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team has signed former star running back Melvin Gordon to a one-year contract that’s worth up to $3.1-million.
After finding plenty of success at the beginning of his NFL career, it’s been tough sledding for the 30-year-old over these last few seasons.
Gordon entered the league as a first-round pick (15th overall) of the then-San Diego Chargers. After five seasons and two Pro Bowl appearances with the Chargers, Gordon joined the Denver Broncos as a free agent in 2020. He managed to produce at least 900 yards and eight touchdowns in each of his first two seasons in the Mile High City, but the former Wisconsin Badger hit a major wall in 2022.
Clearly disgruntled over his reduced workload, Gordon was eventually released mid-season by the Broncos. He went on to join the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad, winning his first career Super Bowl despite never even suiting up for the club in an actual game.
Now, Gordon joins another AFC powerhouse in the Ravens. It’ll be interesting to see if they keep him on their roster heading into the season, however, as the team already has a crowded running back depth chart with J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill.

Gordon recently made headlines for blaming Sean McVay for the sudden decline in value to the running back position, claiming the Rams head coach said he’d “never pay a running back again” after their disastrous Todd Gurley contract. And the rest of the NFL has since followed suit.
