Jets head coach Robert Saleh delivered a message for Mekhi Becton on Saturday about his position.
On Sunday, Becton delivered a message about his body transformation.
The New York Jets left tackle who once weighed over 400 pounds, has since lost more than 50 lbs and slimmed down to 342.
That is an incredible transformation for a guy who is going to have to fight for his spot. On Friday, Saleh declared that both of the Jets’ offensive tackle spots were open in a competition and that he would play his “best five” on the offensive line.
The 2020 first-round pick tweeted: “I. Am. A. Left. Tackle!!!” on Saturday, but would soon delete it.
Saleh was asked for his response to that.

“Go earn the left tackle,” Saleh said. “Competition.”
Becton’s spot on the team isn’t solidified because he has only played in one game in the last two seasons because of injuries. He was slated to play right tackle last season entering training camp before he suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Until something changes, Duane Brown, Becton, Max Mitchell and Billy Turner could be fighting for the two starting spots.
The Jets made the decision this past week to not pick up his fifth-year option. It is understandable given the nature of his injuries and the fact he just has not had an opportunity to show what he can do.
With his new weight, it appears he is ready to take his spot.
