A trade has been proposed that would see the Detroit Lions make a major defensive acquisition this season.
The Lions lead the NFC North with a 3-1 record at the moment, they mostly have their defense to thank. And an insider has suggested a deal that could make them even better in that department, although it won’t come cheap.
According to Gary A. Vasquez of AtoZ Sports, Lions fans have been asking for a move for Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, who played at Eastern Michigan in college.
Such a trade could become possible if the Raiders opt to go into full rebuild mode. Vegas could fashion an overhaul that would see Crosby remain as a core piece, especially as he signed a four-year contract extension in March. They would also have to deal with $20.5 million in dead cap space if they trade him.
Any trade for Crosby would likely come next year. But Vasquez notes that the Lions could have him now if they’re open to making a big offer.

Such a proposal would see them get the Pro-Bowler, as well as a 2024 sixth-round pick, while the Raiders would receive linebacker James Houston, a 2024 first-round pick, a 2024 third-round pick from the Minnesota Vikings and a 2025 fourth-round pick from the Philadelphia Eagles.
“This is not going to be cheap for the Lions,” Vasquez adds. “I don’t know if it’ll take four picks, but a first-round pick will definitely be going out the door for this. I’m not sure the Lions would get something as good as a second-round pick back either.”
