The Los Angeles Rams have provided an update on Matthew Stafford’s right thumb injury that he suffered in Sunday’s Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Per ESPN’s Sarah Barshop, head coach Sean McVay stated that Stafford is day-to-day with a UCL sprain in his thumb. It’s not clear yet if the 35-year-old will suit up for the team’s Week 9 road contest against the Green Bay Packers.
Stafford is in his third season with the Rams, having come over via trade with the Detroit Lions in 2021. Stafford has completed 59.7 percent of pass attempts for 2,070 yards and eight touchdowns against seven interceptions.
After splitting their first six games, the Rams have now lost two straight and are 3-5 entering Week 9’s must-win game in Green Bay. Los Angeles is one game behind the 4-4 Minnesota Vikings for the final wild card spot in the NFC.
The Rams have never missed the postseason in back-to-back years under McVay since his arrival in 2017. That streak is now in major jeopardy as the banged-up Rams try to bust out of a midseason slump heading into November.
