While 2021 was probably the best season of Matthew Stafford’s career, 2022 will easily go down as one of his worst.
Coming off a season in which he threw for a career-high 41 touchdowns en route to a Super Bowl title, Stafford saw things unravel quickly this year for himself and the Los Angeles Rams.
After getting out to a 2-1 start, it all went downhill from there for L.A. While the team proceeded to lose eight of their next nine contests, Stafford dealt with his own issues as concussions and a serious spinal injury forced the Rams quarterback to end his season much earlier than he would have liked.
Between the concussions and the spinal cord contusion that ended his 2022 campaign, it’s understandable that Stafford’s wife, Kelly, would prefer her husband hang up his cleats and spend more time with his family.
Kelly Stafford certainly hasn’t shied away from making those feeling public.
However, if Matthew’s latest comments are to be believed, it seems as though Kelly won’t be getting her way just yet.

While appearing on his wife’s podcast, “The Morning After With Kelly Stafford,” Matthew was asked about his future in the NFL. Kelly flat-out asked Matt is he “was retiring,” to which the former first-overall picks answered, “No, I’m not.”
Kelly claimed she had to ask the question because no one seems to believe her when she tells them that Stafford will be returning for the 2023 season. Now that we’ve all received confirmation from the horse’s mouth, hopefully Kelly won’t have to answer any more questions about her husband’s future from here on out.
Of course, Stafford isn’t the only member of the Rams whose future has come into question. Many are still wondering whether Sean McVay will remain with the team or search for greener pastures elsewhere. Meanwhile, there’s also Aaron Donald whose status is in question, as the future Hall of Famer seemed to contemplate the possibility of retirement after last season.
Will the Rams’ disastrous 2022 campaign be enough to cause McVay, Donald, Stafford or any other key members of this club to move on? This offseason could get interesting in La La Land.
