DeAndre Hopkins is a wanted man, at least where the New England Patriots are concerned.
The wide receiver was released by the Arizona Cardinals earlier this month as they couldn’t come to terms with a trade partner. Hopkins is now a free agent who is very likely to be wearing a new uniform in 2023.
The Patriots are hosting him for a visit this week and it appears certain people associated with the team do not want him to leave without signing a contract as past and present players are actively recruiting him with promises of donations to the charity of his choice.
This all started when US Department of Homeland Security, Transport Security Administration Federal Officer Mike Brimecombe shared a private message he sent to the wideout reading: “I will donate $500 to the charity of your choice if you sign with N.E.”
Brimecombe mentioned Pats linebacker Matthew Judon, who vowed to match his donation. Fellow linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. also promised to match the contribution if Hopkins joins him in New England.
Former running back LeGarrette Blount, who played three seasons with the Patriots and won two Super Bowls with the team, has also pledged $500, with The Pat McAfee Show’s Boston Connr, a well-known Pats fan, joining in too.
