Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers are dominating the NFL rumor mill right now, but there’s yet another big-named signal-caller to keep an eye on in the trade market.
Speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show”, NFL analyst and former league executive Michael Lombardi reported that the Los Angeles Rams are making star quarterback Matthew Stafford “available” in a trade.
“Matt Stafford is fully available,” Lombardi said. “They would love to trade (him)…The Rams, what are they gonna do? They’re trying to get out from it…You’ve called teams. I know this.”
Last year, Stafford signed a four-year contract extension worth $160 million. The new deal came just a month after the ex-Detroit Lion led the Rams to a Super Bowl 56 championship over the Cincinnati Bengals inside LA’s home venue of SoFi Stadium.
But times can change quickly in the NFL. The Rams were hit hard by the injury bug in 2022 and finished with a disappointing 5-12 record — the most losses in a season for a defending Super Bowl Champion.
Stafford was limited to nine games this past season. A concussion sidelined him for one game, and a spinal cord contusion prompted the Rams to shut down Stafford for the final seven games of 2022.

The Rams are already expected to trade All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Trading Stafford, if possible, would signal the start of a drastic rebuild or retool. But as Lombardi pointed out, Stafford’s contract makes a trade incredibly difficult. His age (35) and recent injury history certainly complicate a potential deal, too.
