Two veteran free agent NFL quarterbacks reportedly reached out to the New York Jets following Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury.
Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles just minutes into his Jets’ debut in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills and was ruled out for the season. With the four-time league MVP out, two former Pro Bowl signal-callers reportedly contacted the Jets to see if an opportunity could be had.
According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, free agent signal-callers Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz reached out to the Jets to see if there’d be interest in signing them. The Jets, however, are keen on moving forward with Zach Wilson.
After going unsigned, Ryan took an NFL analyst job at CBS Sports. The 2016 league MVP, however, has not officially retired, as he continues to hold out hope that a team will give him another opportunity.
Wentz was released by the Washington Commanders after a frustrating one-year run there. The ex-Philadelphia Eagles’ Pro Bowler was traded to Washington following a disappointing one-year tenure with the Indianapolis Colts.
Ryan and Wentz are most certainly never going to be starters again, but they could definitely be quality backup or insurance options given their experience.
