ESPN is officially cleaning house, as reports Friday have indicated that the multimedia sports company is cutting costs by laying off waves of well-known TV personalities.
Even one of the best quarterbacks in Seattle Seahawks wasn’t safe as former Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck, who has served as one of ESPN’s NFL analysts since 2016, was laid off.
At least there was some good news that came afterward.
Henry Hasselbeck, the son of former NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, committed to Michigan State on Friday night which was hours after his dad had lost his job. Henry, a three-star quarterback from Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Massachusetts, chose the Spartans over Boston College, Pittsburgh, and UAB.
“Excited to announce that I have committed to play football at Michigan State,” Hasselbeck wrote on Twitter.
In that quarterback room with Hasselbeck will be Katin Houser and Noah Kim who all will be tasked to replace Payton Thorne, who transferred to Auburn this offseason so he can play for Hugh Freeze.

Hasselbeck attended Boston College, where he played college football for the Eagles. He had a successful collegiate career that got him selected by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round in the 1998 draft.
In 2001, Hasselbeck was traded to the Seattle Seahawks where he led the team to six playoff appearances and an appearance in Super Bowl XL in the 2005 season. Hasselbeck retired from professional football in 2016. Since then, he has worked as a football analyst for ESPN, providing commentary and analysis on NFL games.
Now we have to wait and see where he might land after losing his job.
