An NFL head coach has been tipped for the boot with just a few weeks of the current NFL season having gone by.
Matt Eberflus and the Chicago Bears have gotten off to a horrendous start in 2023 following all of the offseason hype. The Bears were praised for having made some shrewd moves prior to the start of the campaign, including their trading of the No. 1 overall pick. However, they’re yet to win a game this season.
Eberflus, who was appointed as head coach by the Bears last year, has gone 3-18 since and the team hasn’t won a game since last October.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk has discussed the potential ramifications of another loss when they play the Washington Commanders this Thursday, though he did note that there is no obvious candidate to take over should Eberflus get his marching orders.
“While it’s likely that we’ve seen enough to know that Eberflus is the latest successful coordinator who could not succeed in the next highest job (some do, some don’t), there’s an important angle to remember when considering the possibility of sending Eberflus packing five weeks into the 2023 season,” Florio wrote.
“The coaching staff has no obvious candidate to take over as the interim head coach of the team.”

So Eberflus has that going for him. He could also find some comfort in the fact that Chicago has never fired a head coach in the middle of the season.
Even so, there is a first time for everything.
