Matt Barnes appeared to spit in the face of a man later identified as his fiancée’s former husband, according to TMZ Sports. Last week, the outlet published a video showing the 42-year-old retired NBA player engaged in a verbal altercation with his fiancée’s ex-husband, David Patterson Jr., before the start of an NFL game at Levi’s Stadium.
The former NFL defensive end was previously married to Barnes’ fiancée, model Anansa Sims. The footage showed Barnes apparently spitting in Patterson’s face as a group of people moved in to separate them.
In the wake of that incident, Barnes was granted a temporary restraining against his fiancee’s ex-husband following their altercation on Sunday. TMZ reports the restraining order is expected to be active until February 16th. In addition, Patterson is not permitted to be in contact with Barnes and must stay at least 100 feet away from the former NBA player.
Patterson is also not allowed to be in possession of any firearms as part of the order.
Barnes initially filed the protection order and claimed Patterson was making his life difficult. In the documents, Barnes claimed Patterson “hunted” him down at Sunday’s game and “aggressively confronted” him. Barnes said Patterson yelled out profanity and made threats which led to him spitting at him.
The 42-year-old also stated that Patterson has harassed him repeatedly for months and is “jealous of my relationship with me ex-wife.” Last year, Barnes claimed Patterson threatened to shoot him with a gun.

Additionally, he added that Patterson is “trying to bait me to damage my reputation.”
We can only hope things get settled before this situation goes further and someone truly gets hurt or loses their life.
