Matt Araiza has been presented with another path into the NFL after getting released by the Buffalo Bills when he was accused of rape last year.
The former San Diego State kicker was picked in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, with Buffalo selecting him. However, the team opted to cut him after allegations of his involvement in a gang rape surfaced.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Jets are working the player out this Wednesday, offering him another opportunity to play NFL football in the wake of the San Diego District Attorney deciding not to press criminal charges.
Araiza has been cleared of any wrongdoing as it was discovered that he was not even present at the time the alleged rape was said to have taken place. And he’s now considering a suit against his accuser as she remains adamant over civil proceedings.
Said university has also revealed that none of the former students named in the lawsuit are being investigated criminally, while no findings of criminal activity surfaced on their part, though they reserve the right to restart their own investigations should new developments emerge.

While the kicker has been presented with a fresh opportunity, a roster spot isn’t a foregone conclusion as the Jets signed veteran punter Thomas Morstead in April and guaranteed him $1.1 million on a $1.3 million contract.
