Former Buffalo Bills punter Matt Araiza is not joining Galgos de Tijuana in Liga de Futbol American Profesional despite their announcement to the contrary only days ago.
Araiza is apparently still keen on playing in the NFL, according to his agent, and never actually signed a deal to play for the aforementioned outfit.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported as much this Monday with claims that the deal has fallen through while the player remains a free agent.
“Araiza, who was reported to have signed with Galgos de Tijuana of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional in Mexico, never signed with the team and remains a free agent, hoping for an opportunity in the NFL, per his agent Joe Linta,” Schefter tweeted.
Kirk Kenney of the San Diego Union-Tribune was the first to report the development, however, noting that the punter’s representative insisted a deal was never signed with a team in Tijuana.
Araiza Still In Legal Hot Water
Araiza, 22, was accused of being involved in the gang-raping of a 17-year-old girl at a Halloween party in 2021. The Los Angeles Times published an article on the incident on August 25, 2022, sending shockwaves through the football world.

The player traveled with the Bills as they made their way to their preseason game against the Carolina Panthers two days later but GM Brandon Beane announced he was no longer part of the team the following night.
Araiza, known as “The Punt God,” has denied the allegations. While he will not face criminal charges, per the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, a civil suit is ongoing.
