Mason Rudolph’s roster spot is by no means guaranteed heading into training camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers, especially with the team drafting QB kenny Pickett and signing Mitch Trubisky.
In the meantime, Rudolph is looking for other ways to prove his worth.
He was asked this week about helping first-round pick Kenny Pickett adjust to life in the NFL. Rudolph used the opportunity to take a swipe at Roethlisberger.
Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette described the exchange.
“Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph knew where the question was going. As a veteran now, does he find himself trying to take on the responsibility of helping first-round pick Kenny Pickett, as opposed to being …
“Being like someone else?” Rudolph said.”
Back in 2018, Roethlisberger publicly questioned the Steelers’ decision to draft Rudolph. Big Ben stated at the time that Rudolph “doesn’t need me.”
He would later walk back those comments, saying, “I think people took some things that I said in a context that I was going to be mean or rude or whatever,” Roethlisberger said. “That was not it at all. If you listen to the whole conversation, I said it in jest and was laughing and having fun.”
