Legendary NFL running back Marshawn Lynch had a hilarious admission for fellow NFL icon Peyton Manning: He used to take a shot of a specific drink before each game.
Not Gatorade. Not Powerade. Not water. Not any other energy-fueling drink. But rather, a shot of some of the finest Hennessy.
In the clip below, the five-time league MVP asks the Super Bowl 48 champion if he had any football-related superstitions. “Beast Mode” then states that he took a shot and a half of Hennessy before each game.
Whatever Lynch had before each game, it certainly worked. From 2011 to 2014, he was among the NFL’s elite running backs with four straight seasons of over 1,000 yards rushing.
Lynch was renowned for his highlight reel runs and clutch postseason performances (the “Beast Quake” game, the 2013 NFC Championship, Super Bowl 48, etc.). He spent his final season with the Seahawks in 2019 and retired with 10,413 yards and 85 touchdowns.
Manning played for the Indianapolis Colts from 1998 to 2011 and for the Denver Broncos from 2012 to 2015. He led the Broncos to four straight AFC West titles and two conference championships, winning Super Bowl 50 in his final season.
