Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch has revealed having laughed in Pete Carroll’s face after Russell Wilson threw the infamous interception that saw the Seattle Seahawks lose Super Bowl 49.
Lynch, who spent the majority of his career in Seattle, is one of the best RBs the game has ever seen and helped the Seahawks to two consecutive Super Bowls, winning one of them.
It’s likely they would have won both but Carroll bizarrely opted for Wilson to throw from the one-yard line instead of handing the ball to the five-time Pro Bowler, who had made 24 carries for 102 yards in the game and was a nailed-on cert for Super Bowl MVP.
It’s been eight years since that godawful play, yet Lynch is still associated with the moment despite not getting that crucial touch.
He recently spoke to Shannon Sharpe on the ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast and was asked about the costly decision.
“I look at all uh nine of the other guys and they look at me like what the F just happened and I mean you know. The look on all my teammates’ faces in the huddle you know, it spoke volumes,” he said.
“If you go back and you look at the play I actually lined cuz I’m F ing processing, I line up on the wrong side, Russ got to tell I’m bouncing from back and forth behind… by the time it sat in like what did we just call you just hear all the cheering from the other sideline like what the F.”

He also revealed a surprising interaction with Carroll that took place after the play.
“I usually don’t take my helmet off but you know, I take my helmet off and I go right to Pete C’s face and I’m talking about I hit his A with the biggest laugh in his face…I go to the locker room, I’m out… I didn’t see the last few plays,” he continued.
Lynch would also disclose that he never had a relationship with Wilson off the field and doesn’t have his number.
