On the same day when Tyreek Hill was introduced as a Miami Dolphin, the Kansas City Chiefs brought in some help to possibly replace him. The Chiefs are signing former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a three-year, $30 million deal.
That was a nice deal for Valdes-Scantling, but he certainly could’ve made a ton more if he decided to put money over winning.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Valdes-Scantling revealed that he actually turned down more money just so he could play for Kansas City.
“I turned down a bunch of other deals for more money because I didn’t want to go lose… It’s not always about money,” Valdes-Scantling told reporters.
MVS will receive $18 million in the first two years of the contract, and the deal has incentives to reach a max of $36 million.
Valdes-Scantling had 26 catches for 430 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games last season. The Chiefs would love to see his numbers from 2020 when he led the NFL with 20.9 yards per catch on 33 grabs for 690 yards and six touchdowns.
