The Arizona Cardinals are a running back short this Wednesday following confirmation that one of their ball carriers will miss the 2023 NFL season with a torn Achilles.
Marlon Mack, who only joined the team last Friday, sustained the injury while making a catch during training on Tuesday. He appeared to lose his footing while stretching for the short throw and went down immediately, rolling around and clutching his leg to indicate that something was wrong.

“Really good player we decided to add. Good job by Monti [Ossenfort]. … We’re going to try to improve our team every second that we get, so excited to have him here,” Cards head coach Jonathan Gannon said after the team signed the player. “I was with him in Indy – phenomenal person, phenomenal teammate and excited to get him acclimated.”
Mack worked out with the team before putting pen to paper on Friday. He was expected to be second in line behind James Conner where snaps are concerned. While the Cardinals have Keaontay Ingram and Corey Clement playing behind Conner, the fact that they signed him signals a level of dissatisfaction.
The 27-year-old tore his Achilles back in 2020 and has only started one game since then as he simply hasn’t been the same player since.
