A former NFL quarterback took off to Mexico for a private wedding this week.
Mark Sanchez, who spent 10 years in the league, has married actress Perry Mattfeld. The couple tied the knot in a 16th-century colonial monastery on Sunday. Sanchez, who now works as a television analyst, was escorted to the altar by his mother with close friends Leslie Powell and Seth Cook performing.
“It was really emotional and special for us,” the former QB told People.
“Emotional is a massive understatement,” he added. “It all hit me at once like a Mack truck and after that, I couldn’t turn off the tears!”
Mark’s former New York Jets teammate Nick Mangold shared a photo of them from the wedding.
A total of 222 people were in attendance and celebrated the event at a private estate in Oaxaca City.

“We are both of Mexican descent and we loved the idea of celebrating there,” Mattfeld explained. “We visited Oaxaca a few years ago and fell in love, so we knew it was the perfect location for us. We also liked the idea of giving our friends and family a reason to visit Oaxaca!”
They were married by Scotty McKnight, who introduced them to each other in 2017, with Sanchez’s son Daniel a groomsman.
Mark and Perry made sure to incorporate moles into their cuisine as Oaxaca boasts seven mole species. Dinner was a mix of popular American and Oaxan dishes, including pork ribs in green mole and sweet potato-wrapped shrimp in brown mole.
Sanchez played for the Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Denver Broncos, also spending time with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Washington Redskins.
