Marcus Maye is the latest Saints player to wrap up a long-running legal saga this offseason.
The New Orleans Saints safety accepted a plea deal in his case stemming from a 2021 charge of driving under the influence and received six months probation. Maye initially faced charges of driving under the influence, DUI/damage to property and person, and leaving the scene of the crash as a result of the February 2021 incident.
As part of his deal, Maye’s driver’s license will be suspended for six months and he will have to complete 50 community service hours.
“Mr. Maye’s legal saga has come to a conclusion today and he looks forward to focusing on football,” Maye’s attorney Eric Schwartzreich told ESPN.
The NFL could impose further discipline on Maye for his actions.
Maye is a starter in the Saints secondary alongside Tyrann Mathieu, and is expected to have a big season. If the league does step in and suspends him, rookie Jordan Howden could be a viable option to take his place.

Maye is entering his seventh season in the NFL and was signed by the Saints to a three-year, $28.5 million contract in 2022. In his first season in New Orleans, he had 60 total tackles, two passes defended, and a forced fumble.
