A New Orleans man found himself under arrest for allegedly attempting to extort millions of dollars Tyrann Mathieu.
According to a report from WDSU, Geourvon Sears is accused of asking the Kansas City Chiefs safety for “$1.5 million deposited into his account” while threatening to provide the media with allegations of sexual misconduct. The court documents also allege Sears told some of Mathieu’s relatives: “I want $1.5 million by Friday or I am going to kill all you all.”
“The unsealed criminal complaint said that Mathieu’s relatives feared for their safety.
The complaint said that Sears threatened to go to media outlets to injure TM’s reputation by alleging sexual misconduct by TM if payments weren’t made.
Mathieu’s agent said the matter is a “very private and personal family issue.”
“He’s dealing with a family member who is dealing with a mental health issue,” said Denise White, EAG Sports Representative of Mathieu. “Tyrann is fine. His family is fine. They are getting through.”
Both the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL officially offered “no comment” on the case.
Sears was released from police custody after posting bond.
The 27-year-old is entering his first season with the Kansas City Chiefs after previously playing with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.
