The New England Patriots have made a bizarre decision at the quarterback position that has plenty of folks scratching their heads as they have cut Malik Cunningham from their 53-man roster.
The Pats announced some moves on Tuesday, including their waiving of the QB and the release of veteran defensive end Terry Flowers instead of activating him from the physically unable to perform list.
Cunningham signed as an undrafted free agent with the Pats before ending up on their practice squad on the back of some impressive performances in preseason, though he was waived first. He was elevated to the active roster and signed to a three-year deal earlier this month.
The former Louisville signal-caller played six offensive snaps this season and was inactive for the team’s recent Week 7 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Bailey Zappe and Will Grier will now play backup to Mac Jones.
Meanwhile, Flowers was designated to make a return three weeks ago but was placed on the PUP list after joining the team for a second spell back in August.
