Former New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler has no plans of riding off into the sunset just yet.
The Super Bowl XLIX hero is reportedly set to work out with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday.
This is huge news since Butler hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2020. Back then, he ran with the Tennessee Titans with his last workout coming in last October with the Miami Dolphins, but it didn’t go anywhere.
Butler made his name after he secured the game-clinching interception on former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at Super Bowl XLIX. Some even argued his benching at Super Bowl LII cost the Patriots a championship.
Butler started 36 of the 41 games he appeared in for the Titans over the next three seasons, recording 35 passes defended and nine of his 17 career interceptions.
Playing in the wide-open NFC South, the Falcons have a legitimate shot to win the division and make the playoffs, and signing Butler would be the type of low-risk move that could help them accomplish their goal.
