Michael Thomas will most definitely play in 2021 as a member of the New Orleans Saints, but it might not go any further after this season.
The murky situation in New Orleans surrounding the controversial WR started with a report that he ghosted the team for three months this offseason for delaying his surgery. It got even crazier when the star receiver set a tweet Monday morning insinuating he’s withholding info that would paint a different picture than the one that’s been reported.
“They tried to damage your reputation. You saved theirs by not telling your side of the story,” Thomas wrote.
Soon, trade rumors would pop up, but his contract is a major hurdle.
“The Saints would have to eat $32.6 million in dead money — $8.9 million this year and $22.7 million next year — to trade Michael Thomas,” NFL analyst Bill Barnwell tweeted.

“Saints have always shown they don’t care about cash, so even though it sounds crazy, Michael Thomas could be moved if things have gotten bad enough Interesting trade situation now considering he’ll miss some time, but potentially an incredible buy-low opportunity,” Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus wrote.
“I’ll trade Michael Thomas to the jaguars for CJ Henderson, Laviska Shenault, and two second-round picks,” John Sigler of Saints Wire said. “Who do I need to call?”
The 28-year-old has spent his entire five-year career with the Saints. He had a great 2018 season and a dynamite 2019 season, making the Pro Bowl both years and twice earning first-team All-Pro honors.
Thomas missed eight games due to injury last year. He was scratched from another by the club for disciplinary reasons after punching teammate Chauncey Gardner-Johnson during practice.
