For the first time, the Super Bowl will have an in-game DJ. At least that was the plan.
Tiësto, a 55-year-old Dutch DJ and record producer, was supposed to play music before and after the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium.
Tiësto, whose full name is Tijs Michiel Verwest, won’t be fulfilling his duties now.
The Grammy-winning DJ/producer is reportedly pulling out of the event. KOA Colorado’s Benjamin Allbright was the first to break the news.
“Breaking: Per multiple sources — DJ @tiesto the Super Bowl’s first “in-house DJ” is pulling out of the event due to unforseen family circumstances,” Allbright reported.
With the Super Bowl being held in Las Vegas, a place known for its party culture, the NFL felt this year was the perfect year to fully embrace DJ culture and dance music and no they have a major void.

Tiësto won a Grammy Award in 2015, has more than 12 billion streams worldwide on Spotify, and has released six Billboard “Hot 100″ songs. This could’ve been a major opportunity for him to reach even more people.
Many of Tiësto’s songs are remixes and collaborations with other famous artists, so there’s a chance people have heard his music without realizing it.
