It sounds as though the Jacksonville Jaguars will be without their franchise star for Sunday’s pivotal clash against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, star quarterback Trevor Lawrence is unlikely to play on Sunday as he continues to recover from a concussion. Lawrence was concussed in the Jaguars’ Sunday night loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
With Lawrence out, the Jaguars are likely to start veteran backup C.J. Beathard. The latter had to replace an injured Lawrence (high ankle sprain) in Week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals, completing nine of 10 pass attempts in the loss.
Losers of three straight, the Jaguars are tied with the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts for first in the AFC South. After visiting Tampa Bay on Sunday, the Jaguars will host the Carolina Panthers before wrapping up the regular season on the road against the Tennessee Titans.
