When Tom Brady left New England for Tampa Bay, the Patriots were left with a huge void at the quarterback position as Brady is widely regarded as the best to ever do it. With their first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Pats selected quarterback Mac Jones out of Alabama with the 15th overall pick in hopes he would be the franchises quarterback for years to come.
Jones’ tenure with New England started off great as he compiled a solid rookie season, starting all 17 games and leading the Patriots to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth. Unfortunately for Jones and the Pats, things have gone south the last couple of years as his numbers across the board have gone way down compared to his rookie season and he has also dealt with a slew of injuries.
It appears as though Jones’ days with the Patriots may be coming to an end soon as it is being reported that he is a top candidate to be traded out of town or possibly even cut if they cannot find a trade partner.
This news should not come as a huge shock to anyone as Bill Belichick, the man who selected Jones in the first round in 2021 is no longer the head coach in New England. Add in the fact that Jones was benched on four separate occasions during the 2023 season which definitely hurt with his confidence.
