The Carolina Panthers were planning to release tight end Hayden Hurst before March 16, when he is due a $1.85 million roster bonus.
Hurst signed a three-year deal with the Panthers last year and by letting him go, the Panthers will incur a $9.86 million dead cap hit with only $52,156 in cap savings.
Hurst wasn’t on the market for very long.

The veteran tight end only appeared in nine games with Carolina last season and hauled in 18 catches with 184 yards and one touchdown.
The previous season with the Cincinnati Bengals, Hurst had 52 catches for 414 yards and two touchdowns.
There is clearly still something left in the tank and he could be a huge weapon for Justin Herbert and new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
