The Los Angeles Chargers did not stop at Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco when they decided to have heads roll on the back of their embarrassing loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday night.
Staley led his men out ahead of a 63-21 defeat on the night and was out of a job the following day, with the team announcing they were moving on from him, as well as the general manager.
Around three hours later, they made a similar announcement, this time revealing that defensive run game coordinator and defensive line coach Jay Rodgers was also being let go.
“We have relieved Defensive Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line Coach Jay Rodgers of his duties,” they shared on X.
Rodgers joined the Chargers as part of Staley’s coaching staff in 2021 and started working with the outside linebackers while taking charge of the defensive run game before taking up duties as the defensive line coach.
A respected figure around the league, Rodgers wasn’t able to get the line working at optimal efficiency over the course of his three-year stint. Los Angeles ranked 32nd in run defense in the 2021 and 2022 seasons and improved to 18th this term.

Assistant defensive line coach John Timu will take over the position until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, the team has named outside linebackers coach Giff Smith interim head coach and Jojo Wooden interim GM.
