Most of the NFL community responded to Drew Brees’ comments about kneeling during the national anthem on Wednesday, and that even included former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston.
Brees and Colston were teammates for years on the Saints, so it’s not a shocker that he chimed in on Brees’ recent comments.
All he’s asking from his former teammate is to hear out his teammates and understand their message.
Colston said in a lengthy Twitter post, “I saw something today from a former teammate that I couldn’t ignore. Drew, I had a ton of respect for you as a teammate on the field.”
He continued, “But as a man, a black man, and a father your comments today cut deep. Not because you have an opinion or perspective – but because it continues to be so dismissive and insensitive to others.”
“If you can’t open your mind and be humble enough to hear someone else’s pain and experience, then you’re a bigger part of the problem than you want to admit,” Colston said. “Two ears, one mouth.”
