After his jersey number reveal went viral on social media, Williams dispelled those rumors.
Before the draft, Lions CB Jeff Okudah said that he would be switching to No. 1 for the 2022 season. Before transferring to Alabama, Williams wore No. 6 with the Ohio State Buckeyes. That number is already spoken for by K Riley Patterson.
Williams is recovering from a torn ACL, and his status for the 2022 season remains in question. The 21-year-old tore his ACL in January’s College Football Playoff Championship, a 33-18 win for Georgia over Alabama.
It followed a superb season, as Williams posted 79 catches for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns, emerging as one of college football’s most explosive weapons.
