Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff kept it classy in his post-game press conference when discussing the officiating controversy in Saturday’s 20-19 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
An Amon-Ra St. Brown touchdown reception with 23 seconds remaining cut the Dallas lead to one. Rather than play for overtime, Lions head coach Dan Campbell called for the Lions to attempt a two-point conversion.
The first attempt was successful, with Goff finding offensive tackle Taylor Decker in the end zone. However, Decker was flagged for being an ineligible man, apparently failing to report to the officials before the play.
Goff’s last two-point conversion try was a pass to James Mitchell that fell incomplete. Dallas recovered the ensuing onside kick to clinch the win.
Despite the controversy, Goff wasn’t going to put the blame on the officials. He kept it classy in the post-game presser.
“There was no ‘the fix is in’,” Goff said. “Not that. They just messed it up, and it happens. It’s part of the game, but unfortunately, it happened on that play.”
