The Detroit Lions are going to be short a player for next weekend’s NFC Championship Game, with one of their offensive guards going under the knife this Monday.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, left guard Jonah Jackson has undergone an operation for a slight meniscus tear that will keep him out of Sunday’s game. However, he could be back in time for the Super Bowl if the Lions beat the San Francisco 49ers to advance.
Jackson, as well as tight end Brock Wright, exited Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with injuries.
“It doesn’t look real good for next week,” head coach Dan Campbell admitted after the game, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “But we’ll see.”
Kayode Awosika stepped up in Jackson’s place on Sunday but Sam LaPorta was the only healthy tight end on the Lions roster following Wright’s injury.
Detroit has since signed veteran TE Zach Ertz to their practice squad. He is expected to move up to the 53-man group if he can learn their offense in time.
