NFL fans are having a go at the Detroit Lions following their revelation of a new alternate helmet.
The Lions’ Twitter account unveiled the new headgear in a video this Wednesday, showing off a sleek matt blue piece bearing a retro Lion logo that pays homage to past Detroit teams. Lions fans seemed pretty excited over the new helmet but that much can’t be said for outsiders, who have trashed the design online.

NFL teams are now permitted to have two alternate helmets, but can’t match them up with just any uniform. Multiple outfits have taken advantage of this but the Lions waited a full year to get theirs.
The Lions had teased a new alternate helmet this week, tweeting a blue Mustang bearing several hints pointing to a new headgear reveal this Wednesday.
They are expected to unveil new uniforms in 2024, with team president Rod Wood revealing as much last year.
It’s going to be interesting to see which way they go with the uniform designs given that the old-school logo is drawing some ridicule.
For now, though, Lions fans will be looking to find out when they’re going to see these new helmets in games.
