The Lions walked into roaring Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night where the Kansas City Chiefs are nearly unbeatable and were trying to open their latest Super Bowl title defense with a win.
The road team made sure just about everybody left out upset.
Detroit coach Dan Campbell had his team ready to play.
Under the bright spotlight of the NFL’s season opener, Jared Goff threw for 253 yards and a touchdown and did not register an interception. New Lions running back David Montgomery ran for the go-ahead score late in the game and Detroit held on for a 21-20 victory over the Chiefs.
After the the Lions defeated the Chiefs, Lions general manager Brad Holmes was seen fired up as he found some Lions fans and celebrated with them by giving them high fives and yelling.
During the Lions’ 21-20 upset win over the Chiefs, Goff made it through the game without throwing an interception and now has one of the longest streaks in NFL history without throwing a pick. The Lions quarterback closed out the 2022 season by making 324 straight pass attempts without throwing an interception.

His 359 straight passes without an interception is now the third-longest streak in NFL history.
Mahomes finished with 226 yards passing and two touchdowns, despite his receivers dropping a ton of passes. Lions rookie Brian Branch returned Patrick Mahomes’ first pick in an opener for a touchdown. Up to that point, Mahomes had thrown 20 touchdown passes without an interception in five-plus season openers.
Hopefully, the Lions can continue to keep the good times rolling.
