Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton has been going back at fans who have been critical of his play following Detroit’s playoff exit.
Sutton has been the subject of ire in the Motor City for several weeks now, having gotten beaten by various receivers on key plays throughout the playoffs.
“That’s that’s the nature of playing the position. And if you’re a quarterback or cornerback we talk about all the time, you gotta have a short memory, short-term memory,” head coach Dan Campbell said in his defense last week, per 97.1 The Ticket. “And things are going to happen. And the most important thing in those positions is to bounce back.”
Things came to a head after the Lions saw a 24-7 lead evaporate while playing the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday night. They ended up losing 34-31, having made multiple mistakes and poor decisions down the stretch.
Fans ripped into Sutton, who recorded three tackles, one tackle for loss, and a pass deflection on the night, and he’s since fired back, with some of the DMs leaking to social media.

Despite a shaky first year with the Lions, Sutton isn’t expected to leave, though he’s unlikely to be tasked with marking opposing No. 1s next season. The Lions probably won’t sever ties unless they want to eat up significant dead money, though they can wait until after June 1 to trade him.
