From the moments this game was announces as the Thanksgiving Day opener, everyone assumed the Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears would turn into a comedy of errors. And, wouldn’t you know it, we didn’t even need to wait until opening kickoff for the game to give us it’s first embarrassing moment.
During the pre-game point toss, the Lions won and chose to defer. That left the Bears with the option of which side of the field they want to defend. So, they chose to….defer?
Seriously. After the Lions opted to defer, the Bears actually thought that they could defer back. My guess is this was a coin toss game plan that was devised by none other than Matt Nagy.
Anyway, the Bears’ request to also defer was obviously denied (because you clearly can’t do that), so they were forced to take the ball, go three and out, punt to the Lions, and give up an opening drive touchdown.
Seems like the Bears could be in for a rough Thanksgiving Day.
