A former NFL player has been sentenced to jail.
Former Detroit Lions cornerback Alex Brown has been sentenced for his role in a drunk driving accident that injured two, including former teammate Charlie Taumoepeau. According to the Detroit Free Press’s Dave Birkett, Wayne County Circuit Court sentenced Brown on a charge of operating a vehicle with a high blood-alcohol content.
He will also receive two years of probation as part of a plea deal. He was fined $778 as well.
Brown was originally arrested on Aug. 15, 2021.
The police report stated Brown was driving the wrong way on southbound Interstate 75 at a high rate of speed when he struck a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old male. Former Lions tight end Charlie Taumoepeau was “removed from the vehicle with the jaws of life” and hospitalized. Taumoepeau, who suffered a fractured fibula and neck injury, returned to football this year to play in the XFL. He’s currently playing for the Seattle Sea Dragons.
Brown, who registered a .211 blood alcohol level, thought he was in Atlanta.

The Lions released Brown after the incident. He recorded two tackles in three games for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019.
Unlike Charlie Taumoepeau — Brown is unlikely to ever get another shot to continue his professional football career after his drunk driving decision.
