With a roster cutdown from 90 players to just 85 due by Tuesday, the Detroit Lions got an early start when they waived cornerback Alex Brown on Sunday.
On Monday, we likely found the reason he was gone from the team.
According to Justin Rogers of The Detroit News, cornerback Alex Brown is being charged after getting into a non-fatal car accident early Sunday morning after driving on the wrong side of the freeway. Brown’s passenger was former Lions tight end Charlie Taumoepeau.
He is now facing four charges, and Taumoepeau has reportedly suffered significant injuries in the accident.
“We are aware of the situation from Sunday morning involving Alex Brown,” the Lions said in a statement. “Alex was waived from the team Sunday afternoon and Charlie Taumoepeau is receiving proper medical care following injuries sustained from the incident.

“Driving under the influence is a matter we take very seriously,” the statement continued. “We, as an organization, extend our thoughts and support to the victim and his family during his recovery.”
Brown allegedly struck another car head-on, which injured a man’s legs. That person had to be placed on a backboard by medics before being transferred to a local hospital.
Taumoepeau was trapped in the car and had to be freed by the Jaws of Life. Taumoepeau was waived with a non-football injury designation on Monday.
Brown played just 11 snaps in the preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills. He did have some NFL experience after playing briefly for the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2019.
