Julian Edelman announced his retirement this week and social media has been battling back and forth on whether he is a hall of fame player or not.
Longtime NFL running back LeSean McCoy was asked about his opinion on the situation and he gave a very blunt answer to Jared Quay of Yahoo Sports.
“Hall of Fame? No, come on, man,” McCoy replied. “You have 16 weeks to showcase who you are, what you can do each year. The playoffs matter, but a lot of guys don’t get a chance to play in the playoffs.
“I won’t discredit him because I think he’s a great player, plays with a lot of heart, a lot of attitude, a lot of passion. I don’t want to rain on his parade because he’s retiring and he’s a hell of a player, but I don’t know about Hall of Fame.”
When it comes to his own opinion of whether he is hall of fame bound, McCoy had this to say:
“I think I’ve got a good shot at it,” McCoy said, via PFT. “I put my numbers up with any other running backs. In my decade I was the lead dog. I’ve got good numbers, touchdowns, yards, yards per carry, all those things. And you add two Super Bowls with it.”
One year after he reached Super Bowl LIV with the Kansas City Chiefs and won, LeSean McCoy was back in Super Bowl LV with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and also took home the top prize.
McCoy has 11,102 career rushing yards, which ranks 22nd in NFL history just behind Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson. He also has 73 rushing touchdowns, 3,898 receiving yards, and 16 receiving touchdowns.
