Leonard Fournette’s weight is making headlines this offseason.
A few weeks ago, Fournette looked like he had put on weight when the Buccaneers met for mandatory minicamp as their final gathering before training camp. He even admitted it to reporters at the time.
“Obviously, I’ve got to get my weight down,” Fournette said on June 7, having not attended voluntary OTA workouts, along with many other Bucs veterans. “It’s always been during the summer we all get (our) weight up and it’s going to come back down, though.”
Fournette’s trainer, Jordan Bush, has been working with the running back to get him back into shape. During an interview with Greg Auman of The Athletic, Bush admit that Fournette showed up to minicamp heavier than the Buccaneers anticipated.
“Honestly, he did return to us a little bit bigger than we wanted,” Bush said. “He was also in the sauna every day, getting extra cardio every single day. We called it ‘fat camp,’ just to mess around with him, but he was doing that type of stuff every single day. We could see the weight coming off.”
After so much criticism online, Fournette would take to Twitter and call out his detractors, tweeting, “They wouldn’t have the same energy in your face so why entertain them…… See y’all September 11.”
Fournette received a three-year, $21 million deal from the Buccaneers in the offseason.
